Traditional vs. Same Day Crowns

A crown is a hard, protective covering for a tooth that improves or restores the tooth’s shape, strength, appearance, and utility and is necessary when the tooth is broken or decayed. “Traditional” crowns have a lifespan of about 10 years and require a manual impression, multiple dentist visits, and a placement of a temporary crown until the permanent crown is created which can take up to two weeks. “Same Day” crowns are created from a piece of porcelain in minutes through a sophisticated milling machine called CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics). CEREC allows patients to get their crown prepped and placed in one visit and uses no metal materials. This milling machine uses an oral camera that creates a 3-D image of the tooth which is a big reason why these precise fitted crowns have had a 95.5% success rate. Whether you want to keep metal out of your mouth, save time, continue a regular diet, have a natural appearance, or reduce hot and cold sensitivity, CEREC crowns are able to satisfy all those needs. We are a proud supporter of CEREC and offer this advanced technology at our practice so we can provide our patients with a beautiful smile!
